Does anyone know how long the essay for this has to be? And how detailed do we have to be on the proposal? Do we need to state specific procedures and such? And is it ok for us to propose something that has been researched somewhat but I want to delve further into it and find a different angle? Sorry for the numerous of questions.

I did a search and was surprised that these questions had not yet been asked and answered before. Or are my searching skills in 2008 not working as well as they did before???

As far as an official answer to your questions:

There is no stated desired length of the Wilson essay. In fact there isn't even a recommended length. You have as much space as you need, but obviously only include information that answers the prompt of the questions.

My suggestion ... detail is important. Once again you don't need to go overboard with every specific detail, but the evaluators of the fellowship are going to judge you on your ideas, your experience with research, and how unique your thoughts and ideas are.

Yes, you can propose your own new research concept, or build on previous conducted research.

(3) Hopkins Forums -> Woodrow Wilson Undergraduate Research Fellowship

If we were accepted ED, we can postmark it by today (1/1) and still have it considered, right? darkhope from last year posted that in the forum topic, but I just wanted to make sure it's the same for this year.

Also, are the people who didn't get it notified about it? Or is it only those who got it that are notified?

Yes, the Woodrow Wilson fellowship deadline is January 1st for ED and RD applicants.

Anyone who submits an application for the fellowship will receive a notification letter at the end of March ... whether they receive the fellowship or if they didn't get it.

Thanks for answering AdmissionsDaniel! I searched the forums too and found threads relating to the Fellowship but still had some questions regarding it.

Ooops,
this is what I forgot to submit. I felt that I needed to submit something else to Johns Hopkins. And I even wrote that answer (well, had a good draft). Is it worth trying to submit now? I did A LOT of research and I thought that research was the strength of my application. Will not applying for the Fellowship mean that I am not interested in JHU (I am interested!)? The link seems working. Or will submitting something late only hurt my application to JHU altogether?
How important submitting th

First, submitting a Wilson fellowship application, or not submitting one, will have no impact on how your application for admissions is reviewed. It says nothing of your interest in the school or research for that matter ... and it is completely optional. Your Wilson application is separate from the admissions review.

As far as submitting a late application for the Wilson fellowship, you can try to do so but I can not be confident in saying it will be accepted. My suggestion is to submit your Fellowship application ASAP and provide a written explanation for one the information was not submitted by the deadline.

one more question:

when they review our wilson fellowship application, do they look at our other application materials to get a better idea of who we are too? even if we were accepted ED?

Thank you so much, AdmissionsDaniel! I will try to submit it today and hope it is reviewed

When the faculty committee meets to review Wilson fellowship applications they are provided with the both the Wilson application and the student's complete admissions application. They can use any information they want in rendering their decisions. This is true of both ED and RD applicants.

Anyone here going to apply for the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship as a sophmore like me?

Oh my gosh! I had no idea that the deadline for the Wilson App had the same deadline as the regular decision! I read the booklet and there was no deadline stated, so I took my time and sent it out on Jan 5th.

Is there any chance of my application being considered? I had spent a long time on the self-statement.

Alright, I just read your recent post on this issue. However, since I'd already sent my package in, who can I email to inform them that my fellowship application is late? The undergrad admit. office?

As I stated above, you need to provide a written explanation for why your Wilson application was sent past the deadline. You will need to fax or send that to the Office of Admissions.

what if you didn't apply for the fellowship (but are happy to receive it, of course) and you got a letter with the acceptance package saying 'based on the evaluation of your academic strengths, interests, and extracurricular activities, the admissions committee and wilson faculty committee feel you would be a good fit for the wilson research fellowship program.' and blah, blah, blah, we hope you accept our OFFER?
of course i'll accept, but was i supposed to apply? it doesn't message an essay in their reasons for choosing me...
