Does anyone know how this is going to be evaluated? When it states that it will be evaluated in terms of purposed research and academics strength...Will the committee be looking at our ecs, sats scores, letters of rec and our personal statements from the admission app when they review the proposal? And just exactly how important is prior research experience...i know it is extremely important but is it like an auto reject w/ no prior research experience...O.o

The Woodrow Wilson fellowships are decided by a committee of faculty members who pretty much make their decisions based on the student's Wilson application. Little of the traditional application factors (letters of rec., essays, test scores, etc.) are used in making these decisions.

The committee traditionally focuses on (1) a student's experiences in research, (2) a student's interest (passion?) for research, and (3) what the student plans to do with the fellowship. All these factors matter but in different ways for each applicant. There is no set review strategy.

Many of the former Wilson winners have research experiences, but also every year students are offered the fellowship who have no research experience.

AdmissionsDaniel,

When I was applying ED, I attached a research project with my main Hopkins application as a supplemental material. Now that I'm in, I would really like to use that same supplemental research material for my W.W. scholarship. Is it possible that the selection committee will see this? (I'd be happy to send them another copy if you like just for the W.W. Scholarship):) thanks

what did you research on in hs jimmy? =D
from where i live its sooo hard to get research opportunities sigh >.< or was i just not informed O.o

Jimmy:
Any materials in your original application that related to research experience (including a research project) will be reviewed by the Woodrow Wilson faculty committee along with your Wilson application -- so there is no need to submit the research project again.

anyhow so who else on cc applied this year for this? =D...actually a =/ face...

bump...is anyone willing to share on their research experiences and if their research experiences actually correlated w/ their proposal?

just wondering looking back at past threads...if a person is not accepted or given a "waitlisted" position on the wwr, then does the person even receives any notification at all? And when will the results be out?
-thank you!

The results come out around April 1st, I think. As for my research experience, I wrote/self-published a book (tell you more about it when we meet in september...now I think AdmissionsDaniel is definitely sure of who I am:-)

i think if he were the ones who read our apps he would have already known by now, i mean just by our ecs, it should be pretty obvious O.o lol

Woodrow Wilson decisions are released when regular decision notifications are released. There is no "wait list" for Wilson fellowships -- you either get it or you don't get it. Any student who completed a fellowship application will receive notification whether they received it or whether they did not receive it.

And as to all the speculation about whether or not I know who you "confidential" students are ... I just have three words for you ...

HA HA HA!

..... (o_O)

But what if the people who receive woodrow wilson res grant decides to not enroll then isn;t there like a list of potential "wait list" people?

I'm sure AdmissionsDaniel looked through some application files after decisions were released :)

I repeat, there is no wait list for the Woodrow Wilson grant. As with anything, we offer more grants than we have available knowing that some students will choose not to enroll at Hopkins. If we under-enroll in terms of grants available, we will just save the money for next year or offer additional grants to rising sophomores.

thank you so much for clarifying that =D

Do students receive notification via email or only mail?

In the past Wilson decisions have ben released through a letter - not through e-mail. My expectation is that will occur once again this year.
