Word Count Question

I am writng my essay for UF and there is a 500 word limit. Right now I have 577 words. SHould I try and trim it down all the way to 500 or less or is 525 or 550 ok?

525 is probably alright, but not much more than that.

Bah don't worry about it. I'm submitting 970 words for a 500/one page limit. It's all about the quality and originality of the writing.

Lax, essay is also about brevity and to the point. I shudder at the thought of someone going twice over the page limit. The main importants of the essay are telling the admission office a little bit about yourself, and to test how concise you could write. With the average number of applications increasing each year, the 500-words limit is becoming more serious. Admission Office simply don't have the time or patience to read that much. By the time they finished your thousand words essay, they could have probably finished reading another application. Bewary of length.

Yeah, I would definitely not write twice the word limit. Anything within 50 words is ok. But twice the page limit, they may reject your application because you can't follow instructions.
