I see that for question one and two in the get started site that the essays should be answered in one to two paragraphs, but I can't seem to find any word limit? If there isn't a word limit I'm sure Uchicago won't be surprised to find students sending in "two paragraphs" of 1000 words each...

I don’t think they’re particularly picky. I wrote nearly two pages for my long essay because I couldn’t find a word limit and was still admitted. I think all they want to emphasize is quality over quantity, but there’s no reason that you can’t do both.

This is what admissions said on their blog:

"What is the suggested word count for the different parts of the writing supplement?

We require essays of no more than 500 words for the “why Chicago” and “favorite things” essay, and do not have a strict word limit for the extended essay; I tend to suggest an essay of 1-2 pages (single or double spaced; 1 page double spaced is a bit short, while 2 pages single spaced is on the longer side) for that essay."
