Ok, so I have a dilemma. I plan on being a full time student again next fall, and am going to see if my job can’t knock down my hours from a minimum of 24 to 16. I would work 2 eight hour shifts a week from 3 to 11 at night. I would also have class until about noon or one o’clock each day and band from 4:30-6:15 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday unless I make orchestra, then I’d only have rehearsals Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00-5:00. So depending on that I’d be working only Tuesday’s and Thursdays or Mondays and Fridays. Two years ago I worked 15 hours a week with a full load, but it was over a period of several days a week in five hour shifts. In your opinion, is this doable?
It’s doable, but it really depends on the flexibility you are given by your manager and stuff. Can you maybe work just weekends? I don’t know your job, but weekends are usually when companies need the most staff members working. Hopefully your boss will allow you some flexible hours, as I’m assuming they hired you knowing you would also be a full time student. Also, there may have to be some compromise and prioritizing when you are scheduled AND have a rehearsal or something, so you may end up having to decide what is more important. Of course, that is probably an extreme result that hopefully will not be the case.
I’m also a full time student, and last semester and this semester I’ve been working about 20-25 hours a week with seven hour shifts on weekends and two five hour shifts during weekdays. I also took 16 credits and still managed to get all A’s and one B. You can do it!
