work hard play hard schools?

I am considering going to umich, Michigan state, USC, uw Madison, and UIUC for engineering/business. While my focus is on academics I also want to go to a school that has good parties, hot girls, etc. So I was wondering which school would be have the best balance of good academics and party scene?
I live in Michigan so MSU and uMich would probably be a lot cheaper, but I haven’t gotten any financial aid or scholarship information yet.

USC probably has the hottest girls, best parties, and best academics, but it would be more expensive and you may not get in, as it is very selective. UM is probably your best option, they have better academics than MSU

Out of those schools, USC. Highly prestigious, small classes, hot girls, big party school, a lot of school spirit, and phenomenal academics. However, it’s expensive

Thanks for the advice. Do you have any other suggestions for whph schools? Also I have a 4.0 and 1510 on the new sat. Do you think I would be able to get into USC?

Florida State has good merit aid for out of staters. Solid academics.

I would say MSU. I went there for Halloweekend (I’m a senior) and it was really great, and it will also be where I’m going next year. I have heard, though, that the Miami U in Ohio is pretty good for all that. UM has parties, but there’s nothing like a State party.

UMich by far…

If I was a Michigan resident and was accepted to UMichigan, I can’t imagine why I would consider paying out of state tuition for any large public university experience in a different state just for the parties. Michigan has top tier academics for a large school, and there will be more parties in Ann Arbor than you ever would be able to attend. And you would save a huge amount of money in tuition. This rule holds true for a school like USC, which is very large for a private school (19,000 undergrads) and at best academically equal to UMichigan - but USC would cost three times as much to attend.

Now, some of the small handful of truly elite colleges (the ones that are a crapshoot for everyone) are extremely generous with financial aid if you come from a low to moderate income family. For many people, probably most people, it can be cheaper to attend a place like Harvard or Amherst than it is to attend your own state flagship. Of course, getting in is extremely difficult for everyone.

And of those few schools, not very many are known for being party schools, for obvious reasons. Dartmouth, perhaps.

But if you aren’t rolling the dice at those places like that, be thankful you are a Michigan resident and grab the incredible deal that is instate tuition at Michigan.

I agree that UM seems to offer exactly what you want at a great price. If accepted, that would be my top choice.

USC has California girls, top 25 academics, and all the perks of L.A.

Yeah, personally the only public universities I would consider would be Michigan and Michigan State. Maybe places that offer good merit for top scorers, like University of Alabama. But not OOS public universities that don’t have top scholarships - both UM and MSU are top schools with great social lives.

For private schools that give out good financial aid, I would consider USC, University of Miami, Tulane, Lehigh, Bucknell, Syracuse, maybe Duke. Apparently Wake Forest also made Princeton Review’s top party school list.

“Hot girls?”
Glad your list is limited.

@katliamom , I have been biting my tongue and rolling my eyes over this thread. Thank you for your post!

@jollymamma, These days, I’m a proud Nasty Woman: I’m tired of biting my tongue! Hopefully OP will meet plenty of nasty women at whatever campus he ends up at.

@jollymama @katliamom I don’t understand why you are attacking OP. He was not disrespectful or anything. He wants to go to a school where there are good-looking girls, what is wrong with that?! I wish people would stop crying “sexism” at every little thing. It undermines the very real and damaging cases of sexism that do exist in our society. This is not such a case. A young guy wants to go to a place with cute girls. Sounds natural to me. He never said he is gonna disrespect them or demean them.
This is PC madness at its finest. Please stop.

@noyesmaybe7 dunno if u are looking at the ivies, but amongst the ivies Penn has the most work hard-play hard culture. ( and is excellent for the business /engineering combo you want).

@Penn95… oy. You’re embarrassing yourself and your school. Provided you’re at Penn. But if you are, consider taking a class or two in the Women’s studies department to expand your ideas about “natural” behavior. A comment like that would not be appropriate in a class room. Not in the work place. It shouldn’t be appropriate at a forum where presumably intelligent people are looking for information about their EDUCATION. Of which you and the OP are clearly in need. You’ve picked a fine time to piss off a woman! (Hint: check what’s being planned for Jan 21 in Washington DC.)

@katliamom oh please. You are embarrassing yourself with your over-the-top and uncalled for attack to the OP and me. I don’t know if you have realized but this forum extends beyond just academics and also encompasses other aspects of college life. The OP simply asked a question. Yes probably he could have phrased the question better to be more PC on this forum, but it still does not warrant such a response from you. Also for a person who seems to be offended so easily, you clearly seem to have no problem being offensive and extremely rude yourself, attacking other people’s education and intellect. Maybe you didn’t learn how to engage in civilized discourse growing up and maybe it is you who needs an education after all.

Also thanks for the suggestion but I spent my time at Penn more productively.
If you feel pissed off that is your problem not mine. And btw I was already planning on marching on Jan 21st if this actually happens, not that it is any of your business anyway.

It just comes down to having the critical thinking skills to recognize and focus on the real issues women are facing in this country, rather than creating drama from the slightly unfiltered/ not completely PC-edited question of a teenage boy which at the end of the day does not cause any actual harm.

Regardless of my opinion, however, if you are so opposed to what the OP said and / or how he said it, maybe try to explain your point to him in a civilized and courteous manner instead providing an utterly rude and confrontational response to a teenage kid.

Hot chicks +1

@katliamom really :)) I agree with @Penn95 there was nothing wrong with the OP saying he wanted a place with a attractive girls lol. Bet there wouldn’t be a problem if a girl wanted a place with ‘hot guys’. We need to chill. Peace. No disrespect here.

I always enjoy when young guys lecture women about the “real issues” that women should be concerned about.

Maybe everyone should move on.
