I'm a junior in high school and was wondering what life was like at NU. Is the workload too much to handle? Do you find yourself working so hard to stand out in a school filled with such intelligent students that you miss out on social activities? I fear going to NU because I'm afraid I'm going to miss out on my social life striving to be at the top of my class. Is this something I should be afraid of or am I just misinformed?

You can be on the Dean’s list-and have a social life. NU has something for every student. Stop being fearful-its a waste of time and energy! My two cents-

It’s entirely possible to do both.

Out of all the top academic schools I have been to, the one with the best social life is Northwestern. Really, unless you are BME/pre-med trying to get a 3.96 or some other crazy studier, you can pull a 3.5 and go out on Monday and Thursday nights and the weekends.

As with any other school, Northwestern can have as much or as little of social scene as you want. Other than engineers and pre-meds, it seems that most people have plenty of time to do well in school and still have lots of fun.

Oh. Joy. I’ll be an engineer who’s considering pre-med at NU this upcoming year…

engineer/premed who is graduating 1 year early, and I still find time to have fun!

Don’t worry about it.

I knew plenty of people who partied 4-5 days a week and went on to law, med or other grad school.

How many hours do premeds put in? In other words, do they study like crazy every night, or do they still have time for breaks and relaxation/gym/ECs/hang out time?

bumpp 10 char

One thing I want to point out is the difference between HS and college: Even if you do have a lot of work as a pre-med major or the like, you have SO much more time each day to do it. You’re not in classes for 8 hours a day anymore; there are plenty of opportunities to get work done during the day and enjoy your nights. I just know this is something I definitely didn’t realize until I was in college.
