I'm an incoming finance major, and I'm wondering if I can get some feed-back on my schedule so far. I have preview on wednesday, and these are the classes I'm thinking of taking:

ECO 2023 Principles of Micro
Warrington Freshman Experience
First-Year Florida
MAC 2313 Calc 3
BSC 2009 Biological Sciences
BSC 2009L Laboratory in Biological Sciences

Would this schedule be wise for my first semester? Also how is Bio? I'm terrible at science and I don't think I can handle a hard Science class? I was also wondering if anyone knows of an easy diversity credit class? I was looking over the diversity course list and they all look uninteresting.

Isn’t Warrington Freshman Experience kind of the same thing as First Year Florida, but tailored to the business school?

That doesn’t look like a bad schedule. Most of your effort will go into the biology and calc, but if you are jumping right into calc 3 then I’m guessing that you are pretty strong there already. Microeconomics is really easy, it shouldn’t be any trouble for you.

yeah, warrington freshman experience is basically just a first year florida class that is specific to the college of business. You should only take one of them.

Thanks for the quick responses. I’m receiving the Florida opportunity scholarship, and it requires that I take 1st year Florida, and the business college requires warrington freshmen experience, so I can’t really do anything about that.
But aside from that, can anyone recommend a good diversity credit class? It’s the only gen ed requirement I have left.

when you get to campus, you should talk to some advisors in the business college and for that scholarship, they may give you an exemption, or one may except the other’s class for the same requirement.

Some easy diversity credits are Social Geography(GEO2410) or Housing People Places (GEO3611). Mildly interesting subjects, and the tests are just some really easy multiple choice questions. Plus, the prof puts all the powerpoints online. Only downside is that the guy is incredibly boring. But it’s so easy you don’t need to go to class everytime.

Dppanther,

I receive FOS as well. You only need to take warrington welcome. I took it my first year as a business major. It is first year florida tailored to the business college. Taking both is a waste of your time for sure.

Thanks for the recommendations, I’ve been looking everywhere trying to find some good diversity classes.

lookingtofuture

Thanks for the advise, I’ll be sure to ask my advisor about that. Also how do like being in FOS? They’ve been sending me alot of emails about the peer mentorship program, and their requirements and I was just wondering if you found it burdensome? I’m kind of apprehensive about taking their money because I don’t want to be labeled as a financially needy minority, and I don’t want to be forced into spending all my time with a certain group of people. I was in a magnet program at my high school, and all my classes were with the same group of people. While that did allow for strong friendships, it also kind of seperated me from the general public, and defined me in their eyes. I’m kind of nervous that I might have the same experience with FOS, where I’m being labeled and distinguished from others.

Biology is a horrible class to take if you’re not going to use it for job/med school/grad school. Just worthless memorization not interesting to talk about doesn’t improve any writing/communication skills or thought processes and lab is a pain in the ass

bobbo07

I was thinking about taking bio because I’m planning on double majoring in political science, and clas requires a lab credit. I thought bio would be the easiest because I’ve heard Chen and physics are really hard, but if you could recommend an easier science course/lab I would really appreciate it.

REL 2121 American Religious History is a good class for diversity. I know the title may not be all that intresting but the teacher makes it more like a discussion. He’ll bring in different missionaries from various religions and he asks questions to people in the class. He also gives a paper where you have to visit a religious service way different then your own. I chose a local greek orthodox church. It was actually really fun, I went back there for easter. Most people get really into the paper… Bad news you really have to do the readings. And Im someone who always says its okay not to do the readings if you go to the lectures. YOU HAVE TO DO THE READINGS!!

if you want a science course with lab credit, I suggest BOT2800C. It’s really fun, and geared towards non-science majors. The lab section was basically arts and crafts and memorizing some plant names.

Got Big Dreams

Thanks for your suggestion, that class does sound very interesting, and I’ll keep it in mind when I’m choosing my classes.

glasswright

Thank you so much for recommending this class! I’m absolutely terrible at science, and BOT2008C sounds great. Its fun, easy, and there is a lab credit included? Thats perfect!

I’ve already been to orientation.
If you’re attending UF you have to take ‘the good life’. It is required for every incoming freshman. They will also advise you not skip into calc 3 even if you are capable. They want everyone going through calc 2 before calc 3. Probably going to advise you take no more than 15 credits the first semester. You’re gonna have to party some right? Don’t be a ****** need.
