Work study at rice?

How is it? can anyone comment on it? How much do they usually pay?

My D does not have work study, but she is a tour guide for the admissions office. She makes $12/hour.

Rice does have several work/study options, and the pay varies by job. Most of the jobs I’ve seen are $7.50 - $11.50 per hour. Working at the library is a popular work/study option, but other jobs include being an office assistant, working for the recreation center, working at the info desk for the student center, and working as a theatre production crew member for the Moody Center for the Arts.

Popular jobs that aren’t work/study options include working at Coffeehouse, being a tour guide, working for the student newspaper, and working for the athletics department.

Rice has lots of jobs available on campus, and there’s an online job board through which they advertise to students.

Do you have to demonstrate financial need to work at the university?

Besides jobs inside the university, are there Starbucks, McDonald, or public pools (lifeguard) nearby campus?

My daughter is not on financial aid and works as an admission tour guide and for the counseling center as a graphic design intern. Both are paying jobs. As @Srabookworm said above, there are many other paying jobs on campus such as barista in the student run coffee house, working for the newspaper, yearbook, etc. If you want a job off campus there are lots of jobs in the stores and restaurants in the Rice Village. Rice Village is within walking distance of campus. In addition to the job board, there are ads for jobs in the Rice Thresher for SAT tutors etc.
