I sent my app for work-study back in May and haven't gotten a response yet. Does anyone know when I should hear back?

Who did you send it to? What kind of app was it?

I would email them and ask. College Confidential isn’t really the best place to ask specific questions that few people would know.

i haven’t heard anything either. i believe it’ll happen in the next few weeks.

Not probably the place to ask this either - but we haven’t received an answer back from financial aid - maybe someone here can enlighten us.

After WU received our son’s latest outside scholarship the work study award was removed from his aid package. The net result was a 300.00 loss in aid. I thought that I had read that outside scholarships would not effect your aid package.

Is this because the work study is a federal program and he has bumped over some financial threshold set by the feds? Sad when you are penalized for an outside award.

Call their offices…they’re really good about answering questions and explaining why something happened.

Do you think they’ll have jobs for kids who are NOT granted Work Study? It just found out that the employer isn’t responsible to pay 100% of the pay. (I presume the govt pays the balance.) That puts non-WS kids at a huge disadvantage. But what if they want to work. Can they find a campus job?

limabeans- I sent you a pm regarding this.

johnson181 - could you share your insights on the chances for a campus job for non-WS students? If our son has lost his work study he will need to try to land something - I am concerned that there may not be much of a chance of him finding anything.

I stopped by SFS when I was turning in an outside scholarship and they told me the Work Study assignments are to be sent within two weeks of arriving on campus.

I know that the Athletic Complex hires lifeguards who aren’t work study, and so does the south forty fitness center, but the fitness center doesn’t hire freshman until the end of the year (essentially soph year). Then later you also have options like working for Event Services and ResLife and Admissions which pay well, but I found that as a freshman, I didn’t find any well-advertised or well-known jobs available. Research is a great one, if you can find a lab that has room in their budget. Otherwise, there are student-friendly places right off campus if you really need money, tutoring, babysitting, or word-of-mouth from other students.

thanks everyone. I’m in BME and also a pre-med candidate, so I’m looking for jobs relevant to those areas, typically those in the lab. If I can’t find one, I guess I can look for research opportunities instead.
