Work-Study program

Hi, everyone. I am an international student who was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania. My financial aid consists of Penn Grant and Work-Study program. However, I wish to participate in government scholarship and use this scholarship as a replacement of my work-study program. Is that possible? If I decline my work-study program, I will not have to work, right? And can I use this government scholarship to my tuition fee? Because this scholarship is only valid for tuition fee. Will declining the work-study program affect my Penn Grant?

And also, even though I decline my work-study program, can I still work on campus when I get to UPenn?

Why would you want to turn down the work-study opportunity, especially if you want to get a job on campus anyway? I think it will be a lot harder to find a job on campus if you are not applying thru the work-study program.

I was also offered a work-study as an international student, and will probably decline it! Hope this doesn’t affect me that much. And @Lkjh0987 at least in my case, I know I will have to put a lot of effort into my classes, and I also want to get involved in organizations at Penn; I feel that working just might limit my opportunities and make it very stressful for me

@Rappnic‌ me too! That is my exact thought! Declining the work-study program doesn’t affect my Penn Grant, right? If there is plenty of time then I could find a job using non work-study program.

@penguiny I’m pretty sure it does not affect it, it can’t. That’s aid that they have already offered you, and now they can’t take it away just because you don’t want to work. Plus, I know someone who declined the work-study program and still received his grant
