Work Study????

Ok so I got my financial aid award package and I accepted the offer for work study but I have no idea how it "works"

I was talking to the financial advisor and she was trying to explain to me but my phone died "stupid phone" and it was 4:58p.m. so I couldn't call back

but she told me to print out the work study papers and it'll be just like a regular job like when you go out to the "streets" lol (I laughed when she said that) and get an interview and get a call back...and all the other stuff

but I want to know do we apply now or we wait until the new school year begins anything on work study is much needed

can someone please clarify?!?!

Joe, print out list of possible work-study jobs 3 or 4 weeks before school starts and then start sending emails to contacts for jobs that sound most appealing to you informing them you are interested in work-study. Some will return emails, follow up with them. Make some phone calls to contacts too. You may end up lining up a job before you even step foot on campus. You shouldn’t have a problem getting a job lined up by first 2 weeks of school. Most of the jobs pay up to $10/hr. and you might work 6-12 hrs./wk. Good luck.

I’m a girl…just saying i don’t know if you meant to call me joe its fine but I just thought I should say that just in case, lol i know its stupid…

Ok and when I write a letter saying that i’m interested in so and so job…do I list some of my skills or do I hold on until the interview…shiuld I just e-mail some people now??

J! Yea, you could send a one page resume initially with your first email to job contact. It’s probably too early now, they have their hands full at their jobs doing other things now, send emails out about 3 to 4 weeks before your first semester begins when they begin to put on new work-study students. Again, good luck, you don’t need to do anything right now, you won’t have any trouble getting a campus job.

Poop. They never offer me work study… It’s really annoying. Anyone know what you need to do for them to offer work study instead of differential and supplemental grants? I kinda want to work for once in my life. . .

Thanks tallalassie that’s good information
@Dnerd lol i’m sorry I’m pretty sure you’ll get one too

Nah mine is already finalized. It kinda sucks since most of the internships I qualify for occur during the year so I can’t do them, and a lot of the jobs here on campus go to people with work studies. Maybe next year? :D

lol I got work study too…
