Work Study

I was wondering if anyone here is doing it, especially as a freshman; if so, could you kindly share your (or others') experience with it, and whether or not you think it's worth it? Type of work, whether it interferes with studying, whether or not it's easier to find a part-time job independently, etc.
Thanks.

I would also like to hear from others of their experiences. I already accepted the work-study offer, mostly because I don’t want to accept any more loans.

Work-study is nothing more than the gov’t paying a chunk of your wages.

It is easier to find a work-study job on campus because simply, the employers are saving money when they hire work-study students.

As for type of work, its the same as having any part-time job. It just depends on if the employer accepts work-study students. It definitely interferes with studying as does any part-time job. Its a matter of how can you manage your time?

The good thing(s) about work-study is

Easy to find a job on-campus

The amount you made from a work-study job is exempt from your FAFSA as income.

Remember, work-study is not “given” to you like a grant or loan. You have to earn it by working like a regular job. (i.e. $9/hr).

This is a super late reply, but I didn’t notice your post until I went through my own history and saw this - thank you for the info! It seems like a decent enough deal (especially the it-not-counting-as-income-for-other-aid part) so long as I manage my time well and don’t overload myself freshman year.
