Work Study

I was a bit confused on the work study thing. My uni says that the amount of work study cannot be deducted from my bill. Is the money totally for personal expenses???

I would be glad if anybody wud bother to answer me.

thanks..

Ok
your total cost of one year at JP Patches college is $60,000
$20,000 is for your luxury room/delicous meals and laundry service
$38,000 is for your hard working professors and the buildings they work in ( tuition)
$2,000 is for "expenses" books- computer paper- money to drive your rattle trap car back home for thanksgiving...
When you are given work study- say $2,000- you are expected to find a workstudy job on campus to cover that-
You will be paid just like any other job- probably every 2 weeks- this money is for your personal expenses and books.
If you wish to hoard your paychecks and apply the money to your tuition billing you can. If you have 2 billings say in July & December- theoretically you could have saved money maybe from teh previous year to apply to your fall and spring semester payments- but to me it makes more sense to work your tail off in the summer- apply that to your tuition and use your work study to pay for personal expenses as it was intended

The one great thing about a work study is that you do not have to count it towards your income for your FAFSA (a very good advantage), and at my son's school the min. you can make is approx. $8.50/hr up to $12.50. The jobs are usually very flexible working around your needs. One warning - you are NOT gauranteed this amount. Say you get to school and there is nothing available (and yes I have heard of this happening) then you get no money:(
That is one major reason to work in the summer to make sure you have everything covered.
