I am currently a Freshmen majoring in Business. I plan to apply for some internships this summer, although I have a feeling that I have a slim chance at them, as I am only a freshmen. Anyways, I'm considering applying to work as a teller for a bank this summer. I was wondering if anyone has any information on this as far as what type of experience is required, or if banks will even hire summer tellers. Thanks

Usually no experience is required. They will train you as long as you are capable and trustworthy.

Most of my friends started out as a teller at major banks before moving into other divisions. I would consider applying to bigger banks like BoA, Citi, etc.

Yea I had a lot of friends in high school that were tellers in banks :p

just about every bank will hire summer tellers too, so don't worry about that.

What is the average starting pay for a teller in their freshman year of college?

The pay for a teller is pretty level no matter what your education. It's not an internship, its a wage job. Not exactly landscaping or McDonalds, but it still pays hourly and doesn't require college experience. Expect to earn about $9-10.

In NYC, tellers get paid $11-15/hr depending on the bank.

Can a high school student get a teller job part time? I'm thinking no, but it'd be great if I could.

And would this be any kind of positive on your record? I mean I guess its no high level internship, but at least you're around money right? Any idea?

The only relevant experience they might be looking for (and they'll most likely ask if you have it) is cashier experience. That's pretty much it. If you worked for something like a grocery store before, you're in.
