Hi everyone! I just graduated from my undergrad program and I’m going to be starting grad school in the fall. I need to be working part time while pursuing my grad degree and I’ve been considering applying at Starbucks. I’ve heard both good and bad things about working there but I was hoping to get a few more opinions. Has anyone worked there and can offer any insight on what kind of work environment it is?
Not sure of the pluses or minuses of working for Starbucks but if you are going to graduate school with full funding there may be rules about whether or not you can work. My daughter’s PhD program expects full time engagement with the program and it’s in the rules. Outside jobs aren’t allowed for the first two years.
I’ve already checked into that, there are no restrictions on working while in my program.
While my daughter hasn’t worked at Starbucks, she did acquire barista and waitressing skills working at a cafe during high school summers and she could likely find a part time job just about anywhere now, if she needed to. Those are useful skills to have. Even if Starbucks doesn’t turn out to be the best part time fit for you, try it out and learn all you can there!
My daughter in high school has 2 friends that work at 2 different Starbucks. They both really love their jobs. One works about 25 hours. Week, the other one less, but my D says they both find it a really fun job.
