How easy is it to get a job unrelated to Cornell in Ithaca? I was thinking of waitressing or something similar.

Unless you are working at collegetown, you would need a car, take a taxi or bus. Cornell is quite rigorous, so I think it would be hard to work more than 15 hours a week. I am not sure if you could get a waitressing job for less than 15 hours a week. My kid is not eligible for work study, but she has a fairly easy office job on campus. It pays less than 10/hr, but it does give her some spending money.

It’s very easy, especially at the beginning of first semester. Lots of people are hiring. I’m a sophomore and have held two different waitressing jobs off campus in collegetown. The pay is WAY better than on campus because of tips and everything. I have work study but opt for these jobs anyway.

My d has work study and the advantage of the on campus desk job is that you can sit quietly, depending on the job, and do your schoolwork.

There will be a lot to balance - work, school and social life…
