Working Out in College

Will I have time to work out in college at least 3x a week?
& run at least 3x a week as well?
I really don't wanna hit the Freshman 15 and gain back all my weight,

i think it really depends cause you’re in class for about 12 to 16 hours in a week which is about half the time you spend in high school a week. So basically you have more time tom yourself, but it may mean a lot more studying compared to to what you did in high school. And also some classes you may take may take up more of your time like an engineering major will spend a lot of time studying while a nutritional sciences major won’t as much.

It all depends on you, no one can answer that for you. Lots of people find time.

If you don’t want to put on the 15 don’t drink. That’s 80% of it right there. Also rember to eat Vegetables in the dining halls.

You’ll be walking a lot too. Maybe join some IM teams.

You are going to umich right? Would you like umich specific info?

You’ll have time for it if you make time for it. You have to be in class (and even that isn’t true in all cases), but besides that the rest of your day is available for you to do whatever you want. Just plan your time wisely.

This is the advice an older cousin gave me: Just make it part of your schedule. Once you get used to exercising you’ll feel like it’s less of a chore that you have to do. I go to the rec usually 3-4 times a week, for a 30 min - 1.5 hours depending on what I do, how much energy I have, and my schedule for the day.

It might be different at your school, but I see people bring their notebooks to the gym and put them on the machines (ellipticals, treadmills, etc) and study while they work out. That’s what I do when I have an upcoming test but still want to get my workout in. :)

It shouldn’t be too hard to do that…don’t try to do a lot of weights though, go for cardio. If you do weights do a low weight high reps…assuming you don’t want to bulk up.

Agreed. If you make it part of your routine, you’ll feel more obligated to do it. This term, I told myself that I would go to the rec every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after my last class, and would swim Tuesday/Saturday. So far it’s worked out for me. Unfortunately, I’m injured right now, so that’s all I can do; however, in the fall, I still found the time to go to 2.5 hour soccer practices every afternoon. It’s all about scheduling.
