People talk about the workload at many elite prep schools (Exeter, RL, Andover, Choate, Milton, Lawrenceville, St. Pauls) are extremely intense. So, I’m really thinking, if prep schools like the ones above actually accept you, does that mean you are ready to tackle the academics and extracurricular offered there? I’m really debating myself whether I should attend such a prep school. What is typical workload and what if one has to commute a long distance everyday.
If the school accepts you, then they think you can handle the work. There’s nothing wrong with feeling intimidated - most kids do. Good luck!
Schools above give over 4 hours of homework, any tips on time management?
I attend an above school and that is not necessarily true. For freshman and in some cases, the workload is moreso between 2-3.5 hours of you manage your time right. By the time you are reviewing that much hw (junior year), the school will have prepared you to handle it.
You generally have a free period or two during the day; use that productively. Don’t get caught up in time-sucking activities (like this )
LOL <:-P
LOL, but what about sports and wouldn’t have clubs during free periods?
Those are EXTRA-curricular activities.
Sports and clubs have fixed times later in the day. How sports fits into the daily schedule varies by school, but there should still be some non-academic/non-sport free time before study hall/quiet time (or whatever your school calls it).
I understand that, but what about Elective periods, and Band and Orchestra? Those all meet during the academic day, and it is usually during a free period.
Not a free. Those are classes.
ok…wow Prep schools really differ from public schools
Depends on the school. At mine, yes, band and orchestra are classes which can be taken for credit. however, other students also are involved, and for whatever reason (usually because they are at their course load limit), participate as an extracurricular.
At what time do you guys get home? (those who currently attend a prep school)
A few days before Thanksgiving. (Depends on the flight.)
Boarding school IS home.
Oh no! I am talking about day students!! lol
Mostly around 7-8
thanks @mrnephew .
I’m aware you were talking about day students. I was going heavy on the sarcasm. (Sorry!)
No, there is no free time. You will not have time to do “activities” outside of school.
