It depends. Some students in WBB may be nominated for the Presidential Scholarship, in which case they will fly you down early to interview for the spot. In my case, I was notified in late March, when admissions decisions come out.
Are you saying that even though the application process is different for the different schools that all of the applicants are reviewed collectively so it doesn’t matter which portal you submit through? I had assumed that they would take 15 from each applicant pool for each of the 3 schools.
The decisions are made collectively by all three schools and the number of students accepted depends on the year - so it may end up being more than 45 accepted (For example, our cohort has 52 people right now). The application process varies depending on the school, as USC and Hong Kong use the CommonApp, but Bocconi doesn’t, but overall it is more or less the same. I would recommend applying to the university where you would like to go if you are not accepted into WBB. Message me if you have any other questions!
There’s no early application option for the program is there?
Unfortunately, there isn’t yet.
I was accepted into WBB last week! I got into NYU Stern as well, so I’m having a very tough time choosing between the two, but does anyone know if WBB will have any sort of an information session with the admitted students, or at least a facebook page?
@dumpty You should have gotten an email today talking about a portal that is being set up for WBB students. If you didn’t get it let me know and I’ll pass along more info.
Can I film my interview video with a creative twist or is that not appropriate?
I have a few questions about WBB
- How does the process of getting accepted to WBB work?
- Is it hard to adjust to the new school environments? Like is it difficult making new friends?
- I heard you earn three separate business degrees. Is that true?
Hey Pizzalover! I’m a current WBB student in my first year at USC! So in order to apply to WBB add it as your first choice major on the common app. Then a few more prompts will show up. It is annoying to have to apply but the essays should come easily! Also, the few extra hours you put in to apply to WBB will definitely be worth it if you get in! You may also have to complete an online interview which is really fun.
Adjusting to the new school environments: well I’m only a freshman–and an American–so adjusting to USC was pretty easy for me so far. Everyone in the cohort gets so close, and we call ourselves the WBB family. We are already so close and best friends so I’m sure that there will be challenges adjusting to HKUST and Bocconi but transitioning with the WBB fam will make it so much easier.
Yes, it is true. In four years we will graduate with three degrees. Besides the friends you make, and the life changing experiences, the three degrees is probably the best part of the program!
Also, there is AMAZING pizza places around SC, so honestly, I think WBB is for you! Feel free to look at the blogs on the WBB website or to ask more questions on here!
Hi! May I know how do students participate in extracurriculars when in the WBB since students transfer schools every year? And what’s the class profile of the WBB like (in terms of nationality, SAT scores etc)? Thank you so much!
Hi. I was trying to find information on student profiles but couldn’t seem to find anything. I’ve heard people say that admission is really about being a unique individual and that an application is considered holistically (standardised test scores, transcripts, extracurriculars, video interview etc), and I was really hoping you could describe some successful applicants to gauge if i stand a chance or not. Thanks!
Heyyy I’m reviving this thread again…I was wondering does WBB select 45 around the world in TOTAL, and all starting at USC? Or do each of the 3 schools select 45 and they do some sort of rotation? I’m not sure what you meant about first cohort or second cohort from Singapore? Thanks!
MayiqueCynthia: 45 (ish) students in total. The 3 schools gather to decide on who will be admitted to class - one could surmise that each school would “select” 15 or so. Last year’s class / cohort reportedly had 52. Yes, each new class (or “cohort”) starts @ USC. “Singapore” was in reference to one of the students being from there. Good luck!
@whenpigsfly23 Good questions.
About the extracurricular involvement, we are considered students at each of the three schools we attend, so we are able to get involved on all three campuses fairly easily. WBB students have been involved in a wide variety of activities (This year at HKUST, we have students who joined all different kinds of groups such as Robotics, Tennis, Entrepreneurship, etc). With that in mind, the nature of the program makes it difficult to be very involved in a specific club for more than a year, since you will leave that school the next year. This is something to keep in mind when considering if this program is right for you.
In my personal experience, I was very involved with different clubs at USC, and this year started a Consulting Club at HKUST with a few other WBB students. I know that my involvement is different than four-year students at one university who can get involved with one or two specific clubs for four straight years, but the ability to go to three different schools around the world makes WBB still worth it to me.
As for the class profile, our program (to my knowledge) has not released any numbers or statistics on the academic backgrounds of the students. Each cohort varies in terms of student composition, but I can tell you that from our cohort (Class of 2018), we have 49 students from 12 countries.
@timothy0398 Hey Timothy, the best resource I can point you towards for student profiles would be the USC WBB Ambassador blog (http://wbb.usc.edu/blog/). This would be one of the better ways to understand some of the WBB students and their background.
My personal advice to you would be to apply no matter what you see or hear. Like you said, the admissions committee takes a holistic approach to applications, so everyone has a chance to get in. Work hard on your applications and see what happens!
Hey! I applied to the WBB and wanted to know if you guys had any stats on it. I’m waiting to hear back from other schools and programs so I wanted to know how prestigious and competitive it is as they’ve contacted me 3 times to let me know I’m a strong applicant (I applied and was accepted to the normal Bocconi program as well so they got my stats from there). Any info on the program would be greatly appreciated!
