World Bachelor in Business Program Information

Hi all,

My name is Diego Graterol and I am currently a freshman enrolled in the World Bachelor in Business program. Last year, I remember searching for World Bachelor in Business program information on this page and not being able to find any, so I wanted to give all of the prospective WBB students a place to ask questions and receive more information. Feel free to ask me any questions about WBB or the admissions process!

Hey, I already asked you this in another post, but you haven’t answered yet, so I’ll just post it here too.

Do you get a chance to double major or minor? Or is this pure business?

What year are you in? (So I can ask some specific questions.)

How many free elective periods do you get, through which you can take science classes?

Yeah definitely!

First off, I want to let you know a little bit about the program. You get a degree in Business Administration from all three schools, so double majoring won’t be possible in four years. Minoring may be possible, but it would be a lot of extra work senior year!

I’m a freshman currently at USC, which is the second cohort. I stay in contact with the first cohort currently at HKUST so I can contact them to speak out on that behalf as well.

Because you are trying to fulfill requirements from all three schools, there isn’t much room for free electives unless you choose to take additional units (costs a little bit extra, but there are people doing it in our program). DM me if you would like an example four-year academic plan or have any more questions!

Diego

I’m so glad there is this thread. I’ve been trying to gather information about the WBB but there seems to be little information given over the net. I’m actually an interested applicant from Singapore and I’m almost done with the applications, only left with the video. Could you perhaps tell me more about how the video portion of the application works and maybe give some tips on how to approach it.

Cool! We actually have a student in our cohort from Singapore right now.

I’d treat the video portion like a real interview. This is the way that the admission committee can put a real person and a face to your application. Dress up nicely and be enthusiastic! They are looking for people who are passionate about the idea of this program, and can be successful in all different environments. Most of all, be yourself so that they remember you. Message me if you have any other questions over the next few months!

I am a Chinese (mainland) applicant and I want to know how many Chinese there are in your cohort…

And about the video portion… I submit the application and the writing supplement today. Should I wait to receive a link to submit the video if I do not want to record through webcam directly? OR should I log in to LikeLive and click “Shoot and Upload Video”? Because when I click that button, I don’t see how to upload an exsited video…

Hi Xiao97,

There are currently 5 mainland Chinese in our cohort, and about 15 who speak Mandarin or Cantonese!

Are you doing the interview through LikeLive? If so, I think they changed the requirements so that you will have to shoot and upload a video through the webcam directly. I hope this still works for you!

Diego

So the video is like an interview? Once we press record will the questions appear or are they on the website?

Yep exactly! The questions will appear once you press record.

Thanks! I just submitted my video.

So how many students are applying through USC and how many students can get in…? Because I know there are also some students are applying through Bocconi…

And if I cannot get in the WBB, will I still be considered for my second choice of major? (It’s Marshall’s Business Administration)

So what happens is that the application teams from each school come together to admit a full class, so all applicants will be pooled together. There are roughly 45 people per class, and about a 3% acceptance rate.

Yes, if you do not get into WBB, you are automatically considered for admission into Marshall. Best of luck and feel free to message me if you have any questions!

Not all students admitted will choose WBB eventually, right? So I thought maybe they will admit some more students than 45…

Another question: Are you free to choose courses? Or you have to take the ones chosen by the program? If I get into WBB, can I still choose other courses like psychology in the first three years?

Yes, although I am not sure how many they admit.

Since we get degrees from three different universities, our schedule does have much more rigidity for the first three years. That being said, there are opportunities to take other courses. One of my friends is interested in marketing so she took a psychology class as one of her general education courses. Many people are taking more than the minimum 16 units this semester (including me), so there is some room to diversify. The last year is mainly up to you as you learn, and maybe even change your interests!

When do we know if we made semifinalist? The second round is interviews correct?

I know that Bocconi does interviews as an additional round, but for USC you submit the interview at the same time as the common application. I think HKUST is the same way as USC but I may be wrong.

Hey, I’m currently left with the video interview portion, which is pretty difficult for me because it feels like I’m talking to myself. Do you have any tips or advice as to what kind of questions I should prepare for before I start the interview?

Yeah, it is pretty tough to talk for that time just staring at the camera. I just pretended that there was someone right above the camera that I was talking to. As for the questions, I don’t really know. They changed the questions this year, so I would just go in and prepare like you would for a real interview. Make sure you understand what you bring to the table and how your skills will make you a successful student in WBB. Best of luck!

hey, is the deadline for the video interview the same as that in the commonapp?

Yes, if you are applying through USC/HKUST. Bocconi has a different process which I do not know as much about.

We are notified the same time as the other USC scholarships correct?
