World Cup Qatar 2022

Spoken like a keeper or a keeper’s parent.

Keeper parent, guilty as charged.

Keepers have 192 square feet to protect from a shot hit from only 12 yards away, traveling over 70 miles per hour, that reach the goal mouth in about 500 milliseconds.

THIS GAME. :morocco: Great effort no matter the outcome.

Keeper Mom here too. And the stress of these moments in HIGH SCHOOL are never forgotten - can’t imagine here.

Happy for Morocco, was rooting for them, but Spain was clearly the better team. We’ll have to agree to disagree on PK’s and the impact of playing with fewer players.

Spain go 0-3 on pens. wow. The same guy that hit the woodwork late in extra time – almost winning the game – also hit the woodwork on his PK.

Ironic that you want to make it harder to succeed and make a PK. That’ll bring in a bigger TV audience. :grinning:

Laws of the Game. Law 14. Without them, we would have anarchy. (jk)

Civil war in the Bunsen house!!

One of my D’s and my great memories was a youth tournament championship match that ended in a tie and went to PK’s. We went through 15 PK’s for each side, IIRC.

But one of the girls on the team asked the coach at one point “Do we get trophies if we lose?” We all loved the coach, Molly, I think, and she responded with “Yes, and they’ll say ‘1st Place Losers’ on it.”

Considered a classic amongst our group of friends.

My current favorite keeper story.

My HS girls rec team was in the semi-final of the end of season tournament. My keeper was completely pumped up by the idea of getting to face penalties. I was completely amused by her enthusiasm. In all of my years of coaching, I’ve never had a goalie that excited by the idea of penalties.

We won 1-0 in regular time so she was disappointed.

More money to be made in the US

He couldn’t get onto the pitch much with Man U either. It’s time for him to accept that he is in the twilight of his career – he isn’t going to be a first-choice player for top clubs or Portugal. It happens to everyone sooner or later.

He’ll never make $200,000,000+ (Saudi Arabia club Al Nassr contract) for an MLS club, if that’s what you’re referring to.

Who knows but money will be involved

The same could said about virtually anything. :man_shrugging:

He’ll make A LOT more money outside the US. Not in the US.

Same could be said for Messi?

Yes. Americans love football, not soccer. Can Messi throw a pass or run the ball?

Evidently, yes.
