Pele and the other stars (albeit in their later years) couldn’t turn the American general audience in the mid 70’s. US growth has to come from home grown stars. I am hopeful that with all the info on the hazards (short and long term) coming out, we’ll see more gifted athletes stick with soccer rather than opt for American football. See the success of the USWNT.
I’m not sure it this is correct, but a friend of mine from Denmark has told me that the USWNT had an edge because the sport was very popular for girls in the US while girls in EU and other countries did not play as much. Now that is changing.
I too hope the USMNT gets a better pipeline of talent.

Hard to believe Brazil went out on PKs that way. Neymar didn’t even get his change. But they gave away that late goal to Croatia with missing defense. Feel bad for Neymar and Brazil. Hard to get out at the quarters when you are the favorite.
