A hotchkiss debate team captain came 2nd at worlds - that is for debate public speaking and a few other events combined. She was the best American at the tournament.

Another Hotchkiss captain finished 8th overall and 1st in the world for impromptu debate for the second year in a row.

Another Hotchkiss team member finished 21st overall.

umm tiger you obviously do not know what you are talking about. The world debate tournament is perhaps one of the most prestigious debate tournaments around where the best of the best from around the world compete …

Anyone who does debate would know that.

Anyway this is the third year in a row that a Hotchkiss debater has come in 1st for debate. And the highest finish for an American in recent years.

If you actually did debate; World debate is only being represented by not ALL Of the countries in the world. My mentor told me its only about like 4 countries being represented at the “world” debate tournament. Its not so prestigious as you think… And this world ranking you talk about… it is pretty rigged since not everyone from the world is competing although the national ranking for debate are pretty legit

TIGER, the world debate is very prestigious. and Kafka, while Hotchkiss is a great school I don’t think CC is a place to advertise a school. Especially one such as Hotchkiss which is amazing as it is.

First of all the most important debate that students from prep schools go to is the world debate tournament and it is very prestigious among them anyways. Second of around 12 countries competed not 4 and the countries that are represented consistently finish at the top of the world at the university level were far more countries are represented so you really are arguing against some of the best in the world - at least most of them. So do not belittle accomplishments you do not understand. Think of it as the semi-final round with all the other countries already being knocked out. Organizing a truly global world tournament would be an enormous challenge. Even university level world debate tournaments do not do that yet alone high schools. Perhaps you should wait until you actually attend andover and get involved in the debate team before talking mate.

Principal … yeah i agree. The thing is many people are not aware of the various strengths of various schools and therefore overlook them. I was merely drawing attention to an accomplishment that would otherwise probably be overlooked. Perhaps students who are interested in debate will find that information useful and make use of it ? Perhaps by reading my information they will come here and get the best possible experience they can get (debate wise)?

That was really all I was attempting to accomplish.

I meant cheerleader in only the nicest way. TIGER, you appear to me to be a very enthusiastic fellow. That quality will translate easily into “school spirit” anywhere you go. You will become a faculty favorite and have a bevvy of mentors to choose from. And that is one of the keys to success in BS and your business life…mentors.

Three people on the board of debate at Andover (we primarily do parli) have gone to Worlds, and as a debater myself, I can say that it is an HONOR to do so. In the debate world, I simply don’t see how one could achieve a higher level of prestige.
