World History Credit

Okay I am a CAP student at UTA and am applying to Cockrell for EE. According to

UT ECE | 2006-2008 Electrical Engineering Curriculum

in your senior year you take two semesters on American History (pre and post Civil War). So here's my question, last semester I took American History post Civil War. I am wondering if the AP credit I receive from the AP World History test can count as that second history semester. I have asked my CAP advisor but she pretty much blew me off and said ask someone at UT. If my question isn't clear let me know. Thanks!

No. A good score on the AP World History test counts as a history elective but doesn’t meet the Texas’s state mandated U.S. history requirement.

The state of Texas has specific legislative requirements for one full year, two college semesters, of U.S. History. A lot of other classes count for this though - Mexican American History, American Studies, History of the Black Power Movement in the U.S., for example. Does Cockrell insist that you take the pre and post civil war u.s. history classes, or does it just want you to meet the Texas state requirement for a year of U.S. history?

Either way, sadly, the World History credits just count as extra elective credits toward graduation.

Good luck.
