World Scholars Invitation?

For those of you invited to the program, when did you apply and how much later were you invited? Did you hear of your invitation with admission or separately? In the mail or via portal? (And if you don’t mind, what were your stats in brief?)

Also, I understand that only some majors are eligible. Does anyone know which these are? Is anthropology?
Much thanks.

Hi, I just got an invitation today via email to apply to world scholars, and I never specifically applied to it. I got my acceptance into UDel as a public policy major (my first choice) on the fifth, and today got an email with my invitation, and my portal was updated to allow me to chose a date for a video interview. I am an International Baccalaureate student from GR Michigan, my SAT was somewhere around 1350 but I don’t remember the exact number, and my unweighted GPA is a 3.7, but with 100% IB classes it is weighted much higher. I have also taken an international relations class at a local college for which I received an A. I have not yet applied for the UDel honors program, and I’m not sure if I could do both, but I do intend on applying. Any major is eligible I think, but you must choose a sort of global or language studies minor. I personally am a public policy major and I already intended on a global studies with language minor. Hope this helps!

Recieved an email today

My daughter checked off the box for World Scholars on her initial application but has not yet been invited to apply. She’s a Three Languages and International Relations Major, accepted to Honors Program already but has not received any merit package at this time. Her stats are 34 ACT, 4.55 wtd GPA, 4.0 uw GPA. @elzbth you can in fact do both Honors and World Scholars. Good luck to everyone…my daughter reallly hasn’t had great communications from Udel and it’s a bummer considering my husband and I both graduated from Delaware and I was an International Relations and French Major back in the day. Have you received your merit yet? She was accepted in early November…we expected to hear on merit much sooner.

@zlatanisgod I can’t say for sure but I’d think that Anthropology would be a great fit with World Scholars. I think majors such as nursing and engineering might be harder to fulfill all the requirements and travel per the program but I’m not sure exactly which majors are included/excluded. Good luck to you!

I stand corrected…my daughter just now texted me that she was sent an email asking her to schedule an interview for her World Scholars application. Is that the same thing everyone else has received? She’s going to take a closer look at when she gets home this evening.

@AmyBeth68 congratulations to your daughter getting invitation to interview.

I believe that is different than the email that the other folks reference as my daughter got that email and it was just an invitation to apply for world scholars.

She has expressed her displeasure that she continues to receive emails asking her to apply to a school that admitted her November 3.

However inconsequential complaints compared to your daughters cluster.

Good luck to her on World Scholars interview

@AmyBeth68 International relations is actually my second choice major and I’m still considering it!! No word on merit yet, which is a bummer!!! And yes, I totally agree about the lack of communication. Being an OOS applicant too, I already sort of feel confused/out of the loop. I only got accepted a few weeks ago, so I guess I’ll be waiting on merit for a while…I’m applying to honors so fingers crossed that I can do honors and get into the world scholars program! My video interview is on Wednesday since it’s not totally convenient to drive from Michigan, but best of luck to your daughter!

I am looking for more info on the world scholars program. Does anyone know how many students are asked to interview? We are very happy and surprised that my daughter was asked to interview. Her stats are low to average for Udel and her major is not related. However, she has some ECs that are related to foreign language. Does anyone have any insight to how competitive the program is and if there could possibly be merit money attached to this program if accepted? Good luck to all.

Hi- My daughter applied for World Scholars when she applied to Udel. She received her invite to interview probably within a week or two of her acceptance. She interviewed via Skype last week and was told that the interviewers send results to admissions weekly and she should be hearing soon. My daughter asked how many different majors are allowed to participate, and was told about 120. Environmental type majors are among the newest to be included. There are certain majors that are most highly represented. Some of them are international relations/studies, political science, history, languages, etc. A poster above guessed that engineering and nursing students might not be allowed, and those are exactly the types of majors that can’t participate due to the requirements/structure of their major, form what the woman told my daughter. I have no idea how competitive the program is or whether they’ve increased the number of students they are looking for, other than that they recently added New Zealand to the Madrid and Rome locations, so I’d think they’re increased the number of participants by at least 1/2  If anyone had heard back, let us know  Good luck!

I was accepted into ws today! Going to rome

@elzbth How long did it take to get a decision after your interview? My son interviewed last week and whether he is selected for WS may be the deciding factor on where he lands.

@Cookies510 my daughter also interviewed last week and was told that they were going to submit results to admissions Monday (yesterday). I’m assuming we should be hearing any day now. Good luck to your son!

My son was accepted today for Madrid.

I had my interview last week and my interviewer mentioned that they are not looking to fill in spots for the program, but rather sort out which candidates are suitable. I hope that helps!

As far as how many applicants are chosen, I know that for the Madrid and Rome groups they’re usually around 50 people. However, since they’re adding New Zealand this fall, they will probably try stay around 30.
