Daughter was accepted into the World Scholars Program. Wondering if anyone has had experience with this program in the past and can shed a little more light on the experience as well as the transitions back into the campus life after the program. Daughter was accepted for the New Zealand program and is very interested but lots of questions.
My daughter is a World Scholar freshman studying in Spain currently. She is in the class of 2025. Due to the pandemic, the class of 2024 ended up doing their study abroad this past fall, and my daughter had her first semester at UD, and then study abroad this semester. I have to say that we are very pleased with all the arrangements UD made for these students. What great experiences they have. There are chaperones to fly and travel with the kids to and from the host universities. They organize orientations upon the arrival at the host universities to get them familiar with the neighborhoods, get their books, get SIM card for their phones, excursions to nearby attractions. Make sure you (kids and parents) attend the pre-departure orientation, have your students stay on top of ALL email communication from the World Scholars coordinator, attend the workshops, sign up for the Whatsapp group when it’s time. Just follow all the steps outlined and everything will go smoothly. There are over 60 kids traveling to Spain with my daughters. She didn’t know most of them before the trip as she resided at the honors dorm instead of the International House. However, she was able to find her people within a couple days and they’ve been hangin out and going on weekend adventures together. That frienship will likely endure due to this experience they have together. They are already talking about rooming with each other when they return to the campus next year at the International House. Feel free to ask questions and I’ll try to answer them.
Following up, Daughter still very interested in WS. Thanks for your post it has give her a good spin on the program and what she can expect. Her target changed from New Zealand to Madrid due to start times, but I thin Delaware WS is top of her list at the moment. Thanks again!
