World's Best Colleges and Universities.. What do you think of the list?

World's Best Colleges and Universities: Top 200 - US News and World Report
If you took the non USA schools, the list would look different from USA top 100 universities. I found many schools such as University of Michigan- Ann Arbor placed ahead of University of California-LA.... though this was not the order for US top universities... could this be somewhat a early peek at US top 100 university new ranking?
What do you think of the list?

Other schools that didn't make the top 200 can be found here, along with it's previous rank in 2007:
QS Top Universities: Top 200 universities in the THE - QS World University Rankings 2008

hmm it's still total BS

all rankings suck haha

These two rankings use different methodologies, so there aren't comparable at all. This world ranking predominantly concentrates on the "international part" including proportion of international faculty and students and citations per faculty. People can take the rankings as a reference, but the rank is not the only factor to determine whether a university is good or bad.

I think it's about as useful as this ranking: Campus Squirrel Listings

there are a couple of questions I have about the survey, what employers do they survey? and who do they survey for the academic review?

The truth of the matter is the same 30, 40 or 50 schools are always on the top, nationally and internationally. If a school is #10 on one list and #13 on another, does it really mean anything? Does it mean we do not know if it is actually a great university because it is not top 10 on both lists?

Harvard is always #1. Yale #2. All the Ivy's are up there. So is Cambridge, Oxford, Cal Tech, Standford and MIT.

You are smart if you get into any of these schools. That does not mean you will succeed. Today Walmart, biggest retailer in the world, announced a new CEO. He did not graduate from any of the schools mentioned above.

On the other hand, when was the last president of the USA that was not a grad of H or Y?

morrismom, to become a CEO, you need to be social and outgoing and a great businessman, and not book smart. Just because you graduate from Yale (hello, liberal arts college) won't make you great in business world.

Many rely on USNEWS ranking

"On the other hand, when was the last president of the USA that was not a grad of H or Y?"

Maybe the next one? (Occidental/Columbia)

How about:
Bill Clinton - Georgetown
Ronald Reagan - Eureka College
Jimmy Carter - Georgia Southwestern/GA Tech/USNA
Gerald Ford - UMichigan
Richard Nixon - Whittier College
Lyndon Johnson - Southwest Texas State Teachers College

H and Y are the exceptions.

It's unfortunate that international students are going to look at this list and think that a school like SUNY-Stony Brook is actually a good school in comparison to UNC-Chapel Hill

Us News ranks Carnegie Mellon higher on the world than nationally. I think CMU should been top 15 nationally then.

There are a lot of non-U.S. ones there because they are more likely to have higher international scores, which would outweigh the better academics for the U.S. colleges.
