i missed the deadline to financial aid and im planning to write the the NU admissions office that i dont need financial aid anymore (i initially said that i do). will this hurt my chances of getting in?

....why would it? They don't consider financial need when applying so I don't think NOT filing for aid would hurt you at all.

but i said that i would apply for FA when turning in the application. im worried that the adcoms will think my app is incomplete and automatically reject me.
should i write them a letter saying that im not going to apply for finaid anymore?

sure, write them a letter or call the admissions office. i don't think they would care though because your application is complete...if you don't apply for aid they'd probably assume you're planning to pay for it. plus, they're need-blind so i don't think they'll even see this on you app.

need blind? i thought in their booklets it said they provide need based scholarships instead of merit

they do... need-blind means your decision is not related to financial need in any way. They admit/reject and then decide need. Learn your terms :P

when was the deadline to file for financial aid?

If I were you and I needed aid, I would contact the financial aid office and see if I could still apply for financial aid despite missing the deadline or - if not - ask when the next period would be that you could seek aid for if admitted.
