Worried About Getting In.

I only applied to USC because my parents wanted me to...I wasn't really "into it" that much. Now, however, I really want to get in and am super worried about it...

How do you think my chances look?

-GPA: 3.6 UW, 4.1 W
-SAT: 2160
-Major: won't say what it is, but it's something that not a lot of people go into.
-I'm African-American
-Great high school
-lots of community service
-pretty good EC's
-California resident

What do you think?

Also, how are the financial aid packages for students of households with fairly high incomes? My parents (and I) are worried that I will mostly be getting loans instead of grants/other things that don't need to be paid back. I know that USC meets 100% of financial need...but can I expect a bunch of loans?

Thank you!

No one can tell you exactly if you’re going to get in, but honestly anyone with a 3.5+ GPA has a decent chance so don’t worry too much about it. A lot of it also depends on the major. It’s a lot easier to tell someone they have a good chance of getting into the English program than getting into one of the film majors, or any other performance/portfolio-based program.

As far as financial aid, if your family does have a ridiculously high income you most likely will get mostly loans as USC meets 100% of USC-determined need (and the CSS/Profile takes a lot more of your family’s assets into consideration than FAFSA). Again, no one can tell you for sure but I think they have some kind of financial aid calculator on their website that can give you a good idea of what to expect. You have a great academic background though, and you could get some kind of merit-based scholarship/grant.
