Hey. I just took the November SAT for the first time since taking it way back about a year ago. My math score the first time 'round was pretty dreadful (I'm talking mid-500s), but I am considered to be a good math student, but I have test anxiety issues. Took it again this November after a lot of practice and I think I might have gotten mid-700s. My friend told me that they flag scores that increase dramatically from the prior test. I happened to be sitting next to a kid who always gets 800s in his SAT math, so I'm worried they'll think I cheated.

So my question is: is there any chance they cancel my score? I have all of the working out to prove that I did it in the question booklet, but I don't know if they look at that. Would that be substantial evidence that I worked alone?

They could always ask me to retake it, and I'm very sure I could get within the target score, but I'm kind of lazy and don't really want to :P Thanks a lot for reading!

it’d be pretty over the top if they canceled your score over something like this. and besides, you said you had about a year between those two tests and you practiced a lot. a 200-pt increase from mid-500 to mid-700 is kind of normal. i’ve seen it happen with people who really studied. Especially with those who took some kind of SAT class, there’s even those “Most Improved” awards in their programs. Some students have 300-350 points increase.

where did your friend get his/her information from? and i also don’t think the college people would know who you sat next to anyway.

Your scores may be delayed if the overall composite score for your SAT went up by over their threshold amount. If this happens, the system automatically flags your test and an analyst proceeds to investigate your case. However, your scores certainly will not be canceled as long as you did not cheat. ETS will receive a report from your school with your grades or something along those lines, which should exculpate you. Do not worry if you go online on November 22nd to see your scores and it reads “Not Yet Available”; you will receive your scores in due course and they will not be canceled as long as you did not cheat. Hopefully, your test will not even be flagged but I am simply informing you just in case the increase exceeds their threshold.

what is the threshold amount? cuz I’m also worried that my scores will be cancelled. My last time taking the SAT was in January and I retook it yesterday to raise my CR and Math scores which i’m sure both raised by at least 100pts each.

I think CB is just wound up tight cuz of the whole cheating scandal in NJ.

Great, thank you everyone. I feel much better about it now. I thought that it would have been silly if they cancelled my score; I’m just a worrier!

350 overall!! wow I was trying to increase my overall score by at least 300 lol…oh dear O.o

To be honest, i feel a lot more confident now than the last time I took the SAT so i’m anticipating at least a gain of 250 overall…but i’ll see on the 22nd
