Worried about my bad ECs?

So my family is going through financial issues and I had to get a job. The issue is that for the duration of this year and my high school career, I must give up my ECs to work from after school to late night closings. Will this ruin my shot and make me look mediocre compared to the presidents of 30 clubs and the kids who volunteer in third world countries during the summer? I mean I am also going to need FA, so that's not going to help. All I do in my spare time is learn additional languages and physics, hence the username. Could my essay save me? I mean I am only a sophomore and there are other colleges out there. I know not to expect a lot from the top schools.

Working to support your family, while still persuing languages and physics, shows passion and character. I can’t say you’ll get into Harvard or even what your chances are, but this definitely shouldn’t hurt you, especially if you turn it into a passionate and thoughtful essay

ps. How are you learning languages? I LOVE language learning but don’t reallyknow how to start on my own.

Of course this won’t hurt you! They love stuff like working to support your family - it shows true character. Don’t sweat it at all.
