This might come off as a bit paranoid or even neurotic but it's about interview offers. So I have been told numerous times that university interviews are based on availability and geographic location but this isn't true for some schools like Cornell or Dartmouth. On Dartmouth's website, it plainly states that interviews are not to be requested and are only given out to possibly prospective students. This is what it said on the site's interview policy: "Therefore, we will only offer alumni interviews if we need further information from an applicant." One of my friends has gotten his offer but I haven't yet. Maybe it's because all of my application materials haven't been received but that's highly unlikely. Is this something to be worried about? I wouldn't worry if it were for other schools but Dartmouth clearly says otherwise. Any advice?

So you’re worried because you haven’t received an interview offer and believe that means that you have already been rejected? It’s horrible to have to wait around and think about all this stuff but there is really nothing you can do about it. You’re just stuck waiting and speculating until you get your notification. No one is going to be able to give you information to help you stop worrying about it. Sorry, and I hope you get some news soon.

…I had no idea that was their policy on interviews. Wunderbar, now I won’t sleep for a while, worrying.

Where did you read that about Dartmouth??? I just looked at the website and it looks exactly like every other Ivy policy. That is, availability of alumni interviewers.

Interviews

Hmm…That’s the FAQ portion of the site. If you go read the interview policy, it explictly says they only offer interviews if the school wants to know more about you. Probably nothing to be worried about but still :S

where on earth are you reading this, crabfish? here is the Interview page: [Alumni Interview](<a href=“Apply to Dartmouth | Dartmouth Admissions”>Apply to Dartmouth | Dartmouth Admissions)

Yes, that is the link. Read the point for international applicants. It says, “For students in some international regions, our applicant volume outnumbers our alumni interviewer resources. Therefore, we will only offer alumni interviews if we need further information from an applicant.”

Yeah, but that doesn’t mean that they’ll offer it only if they’re considering to take you. They probably saw something on your application that striked them as curious or interesting, and want to know more. I doubt it’s an indicator of your admission decision

Yes you’re being paranoid then You might think that your friend who was “offered” an interview is in trouble because they think his application is a bit sketchy and they want to check up on him. Just joking. But I would not read anything into it one way or another.

Yep. Case closed, now everyone can get sleep

Ok, I feel much more relieved now. Thanks for the comments :)

I wouldn’t worry. I’ve interviewed as an alum for years and often wonder if our reports get read. At most they probably help in very marginal cases, or where there is something very important and significant that wouldn’t have been noticed elsewhere.

Many admitted students are not interviewed. The majority of rejected ones are!
