worried..school/classes...

So i'm worried about my class schedule. I'm in Math 131, Calc 1 but I only got a C in precalc my senior year, and I'm in Chem 141, Hon Chem, and I'm very good at chem so I was just wondering if pairing them both will be a problem. I only have 13 credits my first semester and was thinking about adding a Journalism class, would this be too much. I don't think the class will be too hard.. not like math, but Idk. should i just keep 13 credits. I'm coming in will AP credits and wont be behind if i dont have 15 credits each semester. I just dont want to be bored with 13 or to busy with 16. And one more question... this talk about it being dead on the weekends is really starting to scare me.. I mean there are parties right?? and people do hang out friends right??? How dead is dead i guess lol.

I’m sort of in the same place as you. I didn’t do that great in my high school Calc class but I’m in Calc 1/MAT 131 also and I’m in CHE 131 and I was decent in that class during high school as well. My adviser said that both classes involve a LOT of work. I’m sure you remember what they were like. Since it’s college I’m willing to bet it’ll be a lot harder and involve a lot more work. I took a journalism class anyway, along with Psych and GLS classes. My adviser also said that if I felt like it was too much for me, then it would be okay to drop it. Personally I wanted 15 credits because I’m pretentious and always want to do more than what’s required lol.

LOL I’m sure there are parties and stuff, it is college. If you have a good group of friends then of course you’ll hang out together.
My brother went to a pretty studious school but he still went out with his friends every now and then.

Weekends being dead is an AWESOME TOPIC. People say it’s dead because they see nobody outside, why don’t they see anybody outside? Because everyone sleeps in and stays in their building/dorms. Sure many people do go home for the weekends in the beginning but many more stay going into the semester.

The amount of credits is up to you depending on what you can handle. I personally was taking 19-21 credits a semester after the first one(which I took 15) cause it’s all too easy for me but not necessarily the same for someone else.

There is parties… There is everything you want but not at the extent of other schools like lets say Uconn. The turnout to parties and other activities can be a bit depressing because I feel like everyone at Stony Brook wants to do their own thing. Students at Stony Brook generally hang out with their own group, is not much of a unified school in terms of student body, I say is partly due to the diverse student body, and also due to the lack of bars, clubs, etc next to campus. When you add the fact that a LIRR station is right next to campus then you know a lot of kids will be forced to go home when their parents want them to… Its not a college-town to sum it up!

BUT: My last four years have been awesome here. I’ve done everything a college student does at any other school (i think…lol). It has been a fun time here at Stony Brook. As soon as you meet a nice group of people and start hanging out you will see what i mean.
