Worries about rec letter, should I call?

So I live in Seattle, and we had a horrible storm here last week that caused school to be cancelled on Friday the 15th, the last day before winterbreak and the day the application was due. I had mailed everything except for my second teacher rec. letter at this point, and was supposed to pick it up from my teacher that day that school was cancelled.

When I gave him the forms in November, I gave him the envelope, addressed w/label, stamped and ready to go, but he was planning to give it to me to actually mail. I e-mailed him once I got my power back asking him if he could mail it on his own, but he hasn't gotten back to me. I'm worried that he may have left the letter at school and/or that he might be on vacation somewhere right now, so he hasn't mailed it.

Should I call the admissions office and explain to them that his letter might be late because of this? Or do you think that they'll give lee-way to those from the Seattle area, especially on something like their last teacher rec. form?

I don't know specifically about Stanford, but generally schools try not to penalize students for teachers' letters not being mailed on time...

If the letter is missing, I think they will contact you, and ask for the letter to be faxed by the teacher (at least that's what they do with EA apps).

you had till the 18th apparently, to get everything postmarked. I read it on their website somewhere...
