The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

There needs to be some sort of qualification.

I’ve read quite a few bad books over the years, but the one that comes to mind is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.

That book was just bad.

I don’t read bad books.

^ seconded.

@HarryJones: The character development was abysmal; his dialogue was pointless, vague, redundant, and random; his overall writing style is chaotic and undeveloped yet is labeled as “Stream of Consciousness” and praised as genius (if I ever wrote anything like him for a narrative in my English class not only would I get a 0, my teacher would probably try to send me back to the 3rd grade); and his own biases and judgements of others permeate almost every page.

There’s more but is that enough?

@BillyMC: Hard to do when they’re assignments.

The Iliad, any Shakespeare, basically any old english book. I HATE HATE HATE having to constantly attempt to translate oldspeak into newspeak, and it makes it impossible to actually analyze what the author is saying or understand the humor and all that. Just garbage. I don’t know why schools make us read books that are in borderline foreign languages.

I don’t take classes that make me read bad books.

gasp blasphemy.

I did not enjoy The Quest for the Holy Grail. Otherwise, I enjoy most of what I read.

The book of the dun cow. Read it in elementary school, it blew my mind. I didnt know what was going on.

I try to look for it now, no one has or sells it. I wonder why.

I loved SAR! I did a facebook project on it.

Worst book: The Scarlet Letter.
LOL the day my teacher made us read it in class…
I’m pretty sure I shmoop and sparknotes’d the entire thing.

The Scarlet Letter is genius.

Great Expectations was a bore. Now, A Tale of two Cities… that was a masterpiece.

^Great Expectations definitely wasn’t exciting, but it was far from being a bad book.

^^It was the worst of books, it was the best of books?

Lol at HarryJones

ethan frome

can you please explain how scarlet letter is “genius”? I understand the symbolisms and ideas but as far as reading the book for something other than analyzing it, scarlet letter is a numbingly boring, horribly long-winded book…

Sophie’s World

Simply not entertaining!
