Worth applying?

My school limits the number of applications to 6, so I have to pick schools wisely. I have decided to apply to schools where I have a chance because I don't want to end up being rejected from all schools. Do I have a decent enough shot to warrant applying?

Apply EA to Michigan and it becomes a very safe match.

What about Ross pre-admit?

Ross is unpredictible. Your Ross essay and personal experiences will count for a lot.

What if I have a lot of experience with business and finance? I’m sure that’s a plus.

Won’t hurt to try, but it’s still a crap shoot.

Work experience definitely helps. But no matter what, the odds with Ross are never good. Apply EA and see what happens.

I’m sure it isn’t as hard to get into as, say, Wharton or Princeton though, is it?

You’re probably right, but I have a friend who was rejected as a preadmit but accepted to Wharton.

Ross pre-admit is not as hard to get into as Princeton or Wharton, but it is not much easier either.

Does anyone know the selectivity of Ross? Also what is Honors?

Chinesedumplings, Ross pre-admit is relatively selective. Below are the admissions figures for the latest pre-admit class:

1,283 applied
332 (26%) admitted

Of the 332 who were admitted, below were their stats:
Average ACT: 33
Average SAT: 1492 (M + CR only)
Mid 80% GPA (weighed): 3.75-4.70
Average GPA (weighed): 4.11

http://www.bus.umich.edu/Admissions/Bba/BBA%20Class%20Profiles%202010.pdf

The school of LSA does not publish Honors statistics, but typically, 500 out of a class of 4,000 LSA students are admitted into the Honors program. In other words, only the top 15% of the students in LSA are invited into the Honors program. If you consider the fact that the top 25% of the students in the school of LSA have near 4.0 GPAs with SAT/ACT scores over 1430/31, you can easily imagine how strong the top 15% are. The minimum unweighed GPA and SAT/ACT for Honors consideration is 3.8 and 1400/32/. I would estimate that the average honors students has an unweighed GPA of 4.0 (having taken mainly AP courses) and SAT/ACT scores over 1450/33.

“Safe match”…lol…
Safety for sure, but Alexandre wont admit it. He drank too much maize and blue koolaid to admit that michigan could be someone’s safety…

Bearcats, I have seen many students with similar stats get rejected by Michigan. Most of them are Asian (Indian or Chinese), applying with thousands of other highly qualified Asian applicants for a few hundred spots. I am not saying it is common, but it happens, particularly in the case of overrepresented applicants.

Either way, Michigan is one of the most selective universities in the nation, so applying to it as a sole safety is never wise.

^ I wasn’t considering it a safety, but I was anticipating that I would more likely than not be accepted. Can you be rejected as a Ross pre-admit but still be accepted to umich?

yes, you can be rejected as a pre-admit but still be accepted to umich; the outcome of your pre-admit decision does not influence your initial acceptance into lsa, engineering, etc.

if your in state it would probably be a safety. our of state I would guess that you would get in. You have high SATs and SAT2s & impressive ECs

Thanks a lot.
