Within Brown’s financial aid portal it says you can submit competing need-based offers if they differ substantially from Brown’s. Do you think it would be worth it to send offers from Penn and Princeton that are only about two thousand cheaper? Two thousand is not a small amount to me or my family, but do you think it would be considered a difference substantial enough for them to reconsider my package?
Yes, certainly worth it no matter the difference in cost. If a $2000 difference would make a change in your decision of where to attend, you should certainly appeal.
Is Brown your 1st choice over Princeton and Penn ?
If so, definitely appeal and send the competing offers and let them know you want to attend.
Yes! Contact Brown and explain the situation.
A year ago, my son’s offer from Brown was more expensive than packages from other ivies and peer schools. I mentioned this to a Brown administrator who urged me to contact financial aid, show them competing offers, and ask if the award could be adjusted. Clearly, there was an openness to such requests and I imagine adjustments happen all the time. The fact that you have offers from two other ivies–and the fact that these schools pay attention to cross-admit battles with peers–works in your favor.
Good luck and congrats.
@oldschooldad @NCKris @bruno14 thank you all so much! i’m going to reach out to the FA office
