Should I take the SAT for a 4th time in October? I took the old SAT once as a freshman, and have taken the new SAT twice this year as a junior. Mainly, I'm unhappy with my writing score. Will/Which colleges will look down on this? I heard that Columbia looks down on it if you take the SAT more than thrice.

First of all, you should check to see if the colleges you're applying to even weigh the writing section heavily- some still don't weigh it nearly as much as M and CR.

Taking it more than 3 times looks bad.

colleges are usually just as concerned with the score out of 1600 (CR +Math) as they are with the overall score out of 2400. how much do your CR and Math scores add up to?

1400/2010...yeah

I don't think most colleges even take the old SAT anymore (which is what I took my freshman year)

bump (10 char)

1400 looks good to colleges...they count the writing but usually care much more about CR and Math. If I were you I'd try the ACT- take a practice one over the summer and take the real thing in the fall

"Taking it more than 3 times looks bad."
what? where did you hear that?

^^Michelle Hernandez in A for Admission. I know it's old but that is where I saw it too.

"Taking it more than 3 times looks bad."

U can take it 10 times if you like. Make sure you dont drop the score.

"U can take it 10 times if you like. Make sure you dont drop the score."

You can take it 100,000,000 times if you want (idk if possible). Of course, many counselors and colleges explicitly state that over 3 is not a good idea. Well let's forget that silly talk!

If you take it 100,000,000 times, you are really desperate to get into a good school. If you are that desperate to get in, you almost definitely don't feel you can get in without the retakes. You probably aren't fit for that college then. Given the case, I don't think ur time at Harvard, Yale, etc.. will be productive.

I don't think the 1st time as a freshmen would be usable in admissions so I guess technically the one in October is going to be the third time?
