I played a certain travel sport for grades 9, 10, and 11, but not 12. I just decided to play for my school’s varsity team. Should I update my application to show that I am in fact still playing? (I applied SCEA)
I suppose what I’m really asking is if admissions would consider this a significant enough change to alter the decision they would give me.
No. Your participation in grade 12 of a travel sport will have absolutely no impact on whether you are accepted, deferred or denied. Students should only update Admissions on HUGE accomplishments – such as being nominated a finalist in the Intel competition, Google science fair, etc. If you have an update that is at the national or state level, then you should update Admissions. Updates at the local school-level are not the kinds of things that will move your application forward.
^^@2017student7: I agree with @hhjjlala. Being elected grand-pooh-bah of your high school’s NHS is not going to move your application forward in the Yale pool of applicants. Keep in mind, as Yale is one of the top 4 colleges in the US, it attracts super-stellar applicants, especially in the SCEA applicant pool. Informing Admissions of your presidency in your local chapter NHS is not going to impress – in fact, your update may have the opposite effect – it may come across as a tepid update when compared to this caliber of student, so I would let it go: http://uk.businessinsider.com/impressive-students-at-yale-2016-4?r=US&IR=T/#alexander-borsa-is-conducting-independent-research-on-the-new-hiv-medicine-prep-4
