[I am CC lurker, posting on my friend's account!]

I would ask my classmates, but they're either already overwhelmed with their own applications, or would regard my question as silly. I'm the student that already "does crazy ECs anyhow, and shouldn't be worried about college apps".

My two years of research with a youth-orientated nonprofit has secured me a spot to present in front of the UNICEF Executive board in February. I would be the only person under 18 speaking about the organization's contribution to promoting gender equality in primary school education abroad. Asides from research, I've only mentioned my outreach work around my local community in the EC section of the Common App. It's the first time that I would address an international entity.

Now, keep in mind, my opportunity comes out of hard work. Neither my father or any family connections has prodded me into my time with the nonprofit. I am actually from a low income, single-parent household, and it took great effort to persuade my father that my volunteerism was worth any ounce of gas taken between school and the office.

I'm happy that I can see the seeds of my work sprouting and gaining larger attention, but would colleges even care about my recent accomplishment, or would sending them an e-mail update be simply vain?

A note: I'm also sorry if I am vague in my description; I took a risk posting this thread here, but I would rather not disclose information about which nonprofit I am affiliated with, in risk of my peers identifying me.
