I was thinking I should dual major in Computer Engineering+Business Administration because I want to help fight against the major corporations because they are the main cause of all the economic problems throughout the world and I believe that computers are the most important technology to manufacture for the public.
But I was thinking about majoring in Political Science instead of business because I plan on getting involved with politics and I have read that it deals a lot with economics and was wondering would this degree hold me back in the business world?
…not as much as believing that major corporations are “the main cause of all the economic problems throughout the world” will…
Just don’t let any potential future employers who happen to be big corporations know you think that.
Frankly, I would just stick with CE if that’s what you want to do. If you want to do something else in addition to that, I would minor or just take classes of interest as electives. Computer engineering will be intensive enough as-is without an additional major on top of it.
As far as political science goes, unless it’s a job specifically related to politics it wouldn’t really affect much either way in and of itself. What would affect your prospects is what you do during college. Make sure to intern, network, etc regardless of what major you pick.
It’ll be almost impossible to double major/add a minor to an engineering degree because it’s highly sequential and has very little space for electives (and, unless you have lots of ap/de credit, these electives will be prescribed by abet and your college.)
If you’re interested in cybersecurity look into UMD 's CS school.
All in all, your goal would likely work better as a CS major with an economics minor.
I suggest you take an economics course first. Then when you are disabused of this notion that corporations “are the main cause of all the economic problems throughout the world”, things will become clearer to you.
