I have been at a four-year college for just over a month now and absolutely hate it. Hate the school, hate the atmosphere, hate the people, hate everything. I want to transfer and have already applied at new schools for the spring (I started at a private four-year school and then went to a two-year community college after a year at the first school). But I am concerned about one thing: my prospective GPA. I'm only taking four classes and am on the cusp of failing two of them (one because the professor is a really hard grader, the other due to a mess of problems that occurred getting material during the first week that threw me behind quite a bit) while the other two I'm likely doing "meh" in. Keep in mind, I did fine at my last school (around a 3.0 GPA) and was steadily making leeway at my first school before I left. It's just at this current school I started to struggle. A combination of classes being more demanding than I am used to, switching majors early in the semester (none of the classes I'm currently taking except for one core class are required for my current major) but not early enough to change my entire schedule are what's really throwing me off at my school. If I were to apply and get accepted to new schools, how scrutinizingly would a prospective school look at my current semester GPA? I've considered heading back to the community college for a semester, but since I already have a diploma from them already it might be a bit superfluous to go back for another semester just to take electives. There is absolutely no way I am interested in returning to my current school next semester. Right now I applied to a school that the community college gained a transfer agreement with this year (I applied last semester but missed the deadline therefore didn't get in) the same way my current school has for years and am about to re-apply to the private school I started at in hopes we can work out a good enough financial aid deal. I need options here.

Have you considered online classes? Or maybe you could find a different community college to transfer to first.

In the meantime, get those grades up as high as you can.

So this will be your third transfer (private, CC, current school, now transferring again)? That, along with a declining academic performance may be room for concern. Depending on the schools you apply to, they may rescind offers if you end up failing courses when they get the transcripts.

On the other hand, if you write a strong essay and can explain your situation well, it may not matter as much if your performance prior to this school was satisfactory. Or if you’re applying to less selective schools, they may not care what your final grades are; the classes just wouldn’t transfer.

Overall, it sounds to me like you might be a bit stuck, or lost, in where you belong and what you want to do. Is this possible? Taking some time off to work and get your head clear might help you. You also want to take your time applying to other schools; you don’t want to end up in another place you don’t like, so do your research.
