I'm currently in a community college, planning to transfer to a university within a year. However, because my GPA earned at community college doesn't transfer, i was wondering whether or not employers place more of an emphasis on your major GPA as opposed to your overall when they look at your resume (as i will be taking upper division courses once i transfer).

any info is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Both GPAs should be strong, with IMO slightly more emphasis placed on accounting GPA.

I’m in the same boat as you…I know grad schools look at both GPAs so I’d imagine employers do too. Also, now days employers check credit, background and everything else. Trust me they check your education profile from top to bottom, wouldn’t you?

all employers ask for your cum. gpa. some ask for your major gpa. but even then, i think that more emphasis is placed on your cum gpa.

it is better to have a high cum. gpa and a low acctg gpa than vice versa. however, clearly do your best to keep both high.

i knowtransfer students who had higher transfer gpas, because the 1st two years are easier, than their major/last two year gpas. The screening criteria for interviews, is generally the gpa from your current school. So try to keep that high - even though the academics are more rigorous.
