Would "Engineering Technology" be enough for me or do I HAVE to major in actual "Engineering"?

In the future I want to obtain a Managers position at headquarters of a Fortune 500 Company that manufactures Computers such as Apple/Dell/HP etc. I want a position who’s role is to read blueprints made by Engineers and bring them into reality.

I know I should obtain a MBA, I will pursue that after my Bachelors.

For my Bachelors I was thinking about majoring in Computer or Electrical Engineering but doing research on the courses it seems a little unattractive because it revolves around “Designing” Electronics which I don’t really plan on doing in the future. I’m more interested in “Electronics Engineering Technology” which revolves around manufacturing and repairing.

My question is, if I major in Electronics Engineering Technology would it be more difficult to obtain a Managers position that fits the description above? Would the CEO prefer to hire a different employee that has a degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering instead?

I suggest finding out the qualifications currently being sought by employers for the role you want.

From the little searching I have done at indeed.com and careerbuilder.com, life as a Electronics Engineering Technologist with just an associate’s degree appears viable, but if you have narrow objectives of work and company it is much more challenging.

Some colleges have integrated business and engineering programs that you can sign up for/be invited to join. I would imagine the best route for obtaining a managerial position at a computer engineering company would be through something like this. These programs usually have you graduate with an engineering major and a business minor and often have classes geared specifically towards the intersection of engineering and business. I’m not certain just HOW many schools offer these programs, but even if they don’t you could always just go on your own and get a business minor without the program.

You could major in business and minor in engineering or CS if your school offers either as a minor. There are some schools that offer a BA in engineering which is less intense. So you may have to hunt around for one.
