Would Finance be a bad fit for me?

Many jobs in finance seem to be glorified sales jobs. I like working in groups and talking to people, but I don’t think constantly trying to sell something is something I want to do. Are there “behind the scenes” jobs in finance where I can be involved with managing finances for a company or something like risk management? Is there a different type of business degree I should look into instead?

Finance jobs typically don’t involve sales.

Every career involves an aspect of sales, but a finance career involves a lot of quantitative analysis to back up those pitches. If a more collaborative atmosphere is of interest to you I would look into management consulting or business ops/strategy groups on the client side. If specifically you are interested in finance then investment banking, asset management, or trading could be of interest.

Yeah an ideal job for me would be collaborating with people and doing the quantitative work.

Finance is not at all about sales unless you are specifically in a securities sales role (S&T). Most of finance is quantitative and there are tons of middle or back office jobs (think corporate finance/treasury, risk management, operations). Selling or pitching a deal is more common in front office jobs.
