My school's schedule consists of 6 slots of classes. I am debating whether or not I should have a free period next year (junior year) as I will be taking a lot of APs and I need to rush after school to go to another school for Robotics on Mondays and Fridays. Would taking a free period look bad, even with such a rigorous schedule? Here is the free period schedule:

AP Calculus AB
AP English Language
AP Chemistry
AP US History
AP Macroeconomics/Microeconomics
Online: Japanese I

If it isn't good to take a free period, here are my alternative schedules. Would these be overkill (most particularly #2; as you can see #1 is an alternative to #2 in terms of rigor as there is Physics Honors and not AP Chemistry)?

1)
AP Calculus AB
AP English Language
Physics Honors
AP US History
AP Macroeconomics/Microeconomics
AP Statistics
Online: Japanese I

2)

I suppose that I’m used to referring to study hall as a class. Is there a difference between study hall and a free period? My old school just had study hall as an option so I just assumed that they were the same.

There’s no difference except that Study Hall is listed as an official class on the transcript, and free period means there is absolutely no class and just a blank space on the transcript where the period # is.

Are study halls/free periods listed on your transcript? In my high school, they aren’t. You can take a study hall every year and colleges won’t even know it if you go to my school 8)
