Hi
I just took the june 2016 ACT and though my scores haven’t come out yet, i did constantly feel extremely stressed and panicked alot during the test, which made me thought about applying for extra time.
I am currently a rising senior and plan to retake the ACT in sept and probably Nov. For the 504 plans, i had extra time in school during all 3 years in my middle school but i never had extra time in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade because my workload wasn’t stressful to the point that i felt like i needed it. This thought changed when i decided to take 6 college classes in my senior year. I told my school counselor about applying for extra time because i get very nervous and stressed when there are “bigger” or “harder” assignments/tasks, and they said they will help me apply for extra time in school for my senior year. I also have a history (though not to a substantial degree) of stress related issues and occasionally (a few times/yr) i do see the therapist.
SO assuming that i will have a 504 plan next year, would i be able to get extra time on the ACT or is it very unlikely?
I know it sounds normal to have stress but there are times when i have even thought about suicide (therapist knows this).
Thank you
just pointing out that on the extra time pdf by ACT, they said that mental conditions, medical treatment such as therapy and counseling are also considered valid reasons for getting extra time on the ACT.
Also i want to note that my doctor has never prescribed any stress relieving medication but i have on rare occassions (such as when there is a big test) taken pain killers/stress-relieving medications that were prescribed for my parents.
^Here are a few thoughts to consider:

Applying this late, especially the summer right before senior year, will definitely make it real hard to get your Extra Time in time for the Sept and Oct ACTs. But you might be able to get it by the Dec test.

Not to sound insensitive, but if any student takes 6 college level classes in a given year, I’m pretty sure he/she would be stressed out. But that doesn’t necessarily mean he/she needs Extra Time.
I would agree that being stressed isn’t a guaranteed for extra time. Everyone feels anxious and stressed while testing. But if it is severe and the ACT says that therapy would be a reason for extra time, I would try. But the best thing for you would be to take practice tests under real conditions to simulate test day as much as possible.
