I have pretty good stats I think (3.62 WGPA and 34 ACT with a fair amount of ECs) but one issue is worrying me. Sophomore year I accidentally brought a weapon to school but confessed to the admin who ended up giving me 10 days of OSS and only 3 weeks of Alt School (minimum is typically 1 semester but I was a special case).

I figure without that i would definitely get in but I'm worried it would kill my chances. I plan on explaining it fully in the app, but am considering just saying that I was suspended (bad idea?). What do you guys think?

A 34 ACT is stellar. Honestly, you can look at schools higher ranked than GSU. What is your unweighted GPA? Weighted GPA doesn’t mean much for college admissions.

I wouldn’t be worried about the OSS. I would explain it on the application where it indicates to do so as it is best to lay it all out and not have the school find out about it later. I doubt this will drastically harm your chances (especially at GSU). What are some other schools you are applying to?

GSU is my backup behind GA Tech and UGA but with the increasing difficulty to get into those, I am right at the cutoff and I feel like my suspension could cut me short.

You should be fine. Yes, it’s difficult to get into Tech and UGA but I think you have a good shot for UGA (especially with that ACT score!).
Plenty of people with suspensions still get in. Just show you’ve grown from it. Explain it was an accident. A kid at my school left a Boy Scouts knife in his backpack and confessed and got ISS and still got into Tech.

@Retrov Congrats that is great to hear. Also I feel u tech is so not worth, especially if u wanna do pre-med. Uga the atmosphere is not as stressed as tech’s, and it’s more manageable to get a great gpa for pre-Med (or any major) than it is in tech. I have heard stories of people studying nonstop and still not getting good grades. At uga it seems u will be able to live a more balanced life, and it’s more possible to get great grades w/ a good work ethic. So ya uga is the much better option my opinion. Also good luck at uga man!
