Would I get generous scholorships from SUNY schools with a 95.5 GPA , all honors and advanced,AP ?!?

also with 2120 SAT score on first and only try ....good extracurriculrs...im looking to pay $1,000-$2,000 a year for tution room and board !!!

please give me past experience or any helpful info

My experience is that SUNYs do not give out a lot of merit aid. Most of the aid you get will be based off of your financial situation.

ranza123 , what does your experience consit of?

OP,
See http://admissions.buffalo.edu/costs/meritscholarships.php</a>

Also see http://financialaid.buffalo.edu/pdfs/Finding_Scholarships.pdf</a></p>

When I got into Binghamton, I got into their Scholar’s Program, but I don’t recall receiving any actual merit aid. My friends who applied to Binghamton and Geneseo likewise did not receive much in term of merit aid. Perhaps some of the other SUNYs are more generous in their merit aid.

I work in the SUNY system and have taken my kid on visits to Albany, Geneseo, Oswego, New Paltz, Binghamton and Oneonta very recently. There is very little merit aid at any of these schools, and that’s pretty typical. If you are interested in STEM and meet some other criteria, you can get free tuition if you are a NYS resident. “The NYS STEM Incentive Program provides a full SUNY or CUNY tuition scholarship for the top 10 percent of students in each New York State high school if they pursue a STEM degree in an associates or bachelor degree program and agree to work in a STEM field in New York State for 5 years after graduation.”

so do any suny schools give good merit aid?

Yes, SUNY Potsdam has the Mt Emmons scholarship which includes tuition, room and board, and $500 for books. <a href=“Scholarships | SUNY Potsdam”>http://www.potsdam.edu/admissions/financial/types/scholarships/index.cfm</a> .
SUNY Plattsburgh also has a free tuition scholarship.http://www.plattsburgh.edu/offices/admin/financialaid/scholarships.php</a>. In addition, SUNY Fredonia has merit and talent scholarships, too.<a href=“Scholarship Opportunities | Fredonia.edu”>http://www.fredonia.edu/finaid/scholarshiplandingpage.asp</a>.</p>

First, let me say @EsmeSqualor thank you for reminding me of Nine Stories.
Second, SUNYs (other than Potsdam mentioned above) are not going to give you non need based aid to bring cost down to 1000 a year. They simply don’t have the money.

Im lookingto do engineering and only Stony Brook UBuff and Bingh have them …do you know what those three could give?

Go to their websites and poke around. UB has some merit awards for freshmen. Call some people in admissions and talk to them. I don’t think Binghamton has merit scholarships for freshmen.

You could also do a 3-2 program at SUNY Potsdam or Plattsburgh. You spend 3 years at SUNY tuition rates and then 2 years at a participating Engineering school. This could lower your overall costs especially if you qualify fro scholarships. Also look into Clarkson, they offer quite a few scholarships and have an excellent reputation for engineering. Both Plattsburgh and Potsdam have 3-2 agreements with Clarkson.

First, you really should go directly to each colleges website and do your own research so you can see for yourself. If you are talking strictly about merit aid, not financial aid, there is almost no chance that you will get the near free ride you are looking for at the 3 schools you are targeting.

I think Stony Brook gives merit aid to freshmen. Not Binghamton though.

SUNYs do give some merit aid, but it’s really uncommon. I get $5k a year at New Paltz, and I know several people att New Paltz and other SUNY schools that get similar scholarships.
